Dorothy Stone's career began in television at the age of 4.
She was a regular panelist on Jack Berry's "Juvenile Jury" appearing alongside Alison Arngrim and Moosie Drier, where she met one of her life long mentors and friends, Comedian, Marty Allen.
Dorothy started singing in public at the age of 5, performing with her parents and her father, William McKenna's Orchestra. At age 11, Dorothy began singing children's roles with the San Fransisco Opera, appearing on-stage with Placido Domingo, Katia Riciarelli, José Carreras, Giacomo Aragall, Montserrat Caballe, and Luciano Pavarotti. Dorothy was also one of the original 6 members of the San Fransisco Girls Chorus, under the direction of Elizabeth Appling.
Through out high school, Dorothy continued to appear in numerous productions and was the principle cellist of the California Youth Symphony. While still in high school Dorothy performed with Maestro Fred Waring on his final tour.
She then attended Harvard University and The Boston Conservatory of Music simultaneously, followed by the Mannes College of Music in New York City. While at Mannes she was selected to sing one of the Flower Maidens in Wagner's "Parsifal" at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, under John Mauceri. Dorothy's career continued in Italy, performing the Countess in "The Marriage of Figaro", Nedda in "I Pagliacci", and Desdemona in "Otello". She then appeared in the Off-Broadway revival of "Milk and Honey", where an extended featured solo was created for her by Jerry Herman.
Some of the many Musical Theater roles which followed include, The Mother Abbess in "The Sound of Music", Nettie Fowler in "Carousel", Queen Aggravain in "Once Upon a Mattress", Domina in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", and Mary Magdalene in "Jesus Christ Superstar".
Operetta roles include, Hannah Glawari in "The Merry Widow", both Mabel and Ruth in "The Pirates of Penzance", The Duchess of Plaza Toro in "The Gondoliers", Lady Jane in "Patience", Lady Sangazure in "The Sorcerer", Buttercup in "H.M.S. Pinafore", Rosalinde in "Die Fledermaus" , and Stasi in "Die Csardasfurstin".
Opera roles have included, Aida in "Aida", Amelia in "Un Ballo in Maschera", Elisabetta in "Don Carlo" , Leonora in "Il Trovatore", Maddalena in "Andrea Chenier", Mimi in "La Boheme", Liu in "Turandot", Manon in "Manon Lescaut", Tosca in "Tosca" , Fiordiligi in "Cosi Fan Tutti", Micaela in "Carmen", Marguerite in "Faust", Charlotte in "Werther", Lousie in "Louise", Giulietta in "The Tales of Hoffmann", Elisabeth in "Tannhäuser", Elsa in "Lohengrin" and The Erzahlerin (Female Chorus) in "The Rape of Lucretia".
